LOC.gov Essentials introduces educators to the breadth of the digital content available to Library of Congress patrons and demonstrates effective instruction with primary sources. LOC.gov Essentials includes progressive levels and varying lengths of programs to encourage participation in multiple programs over time.

LOC.gov Essentials Program Goals

  1. Pursue life long learning through developing a large community of LOC.gov patrons.
  2. Develop and field-test primary source-based Learning Experiencs to achieve the established curriculum and further the use of Best Instructional Practices.
  3. Build a collective knowledge base of instruction through LOC.gov resources from Kindergarten through college across all subject areas.
  4. Promote collaboration and outreach among the educational community including, university, school, and local communities.

Part A: Discover the Library of Congress

Introduce the Library of Congress Web site resources specifically designed for teachers, students, and families by building a school or department-based team who will support other educators in using LOC.gov.

Part B: Learn with Primary Sources Workshop Series

Introduce educators to the digital content available to Library of Congress patrons and the use of inquiry-based instruction with primary sources designed for Kindergarten through college students across all subject areas.

Part C: Design and Teach Institutes

Develop a primary source-based Learning Experience using Best Instructional Practices, receive peer feedback on the design, teach the Learning Experience with students, revise and publish in the Primary Source Learning Experience Collection.
